The Prambanan Temple, representing the letter “I” by its side view, is the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia. It was built in the year 850 AD by Rakai Pikatan from the Medang Kingdom as an offering to Trimurti, three of the most significant forms of Brahman: Brahma as the creator, Shiva as the destroyer, and Vishnu as the preserver. On the other hand, the Borobudur Temple, representing the letter “O” by its top view, is the largest Buddhist temple in the world. The Borobudur Temple was built by Samaratungga from the Shailendra Dynasty between 782 and 812 AD. It was buried under volcanic ash and overgrown with vegetation before being discovered by the English lieutenant governor Thomas Stamford Raffles in 1814.
Both Prambanan Temple and Borobudur Temple are parts of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Both temples have the same conception of three stages of the cosmology world: Bhurloka (Buddhism: Kamadhatu), the first of the worlds; Bhuvarloka (Buddhism: Rupadhatu), the world between the earth and the sun; Svarloka (Buddhism: Arupadhatu), the world between the sun and the pole star.
The philosophical meaning from both temples is related to the concept of human information nowadays, such as Syntax: sensation-recognition-attention process, meaningful information units; Semantic: interpretation-perception process, information builds knowledge; Pragmatic: memory-thinking process (decision making, problem-solving, creativity), knowledge becoming understanding, virtue, and wisdom. For that reason, we believe that both Prambanan Temple and Borobudur Temple are the perfect heritage sites that symbolize The 34th International Olympiad in Informatics to bring Indonesia to be the Digital Energy of Asia.
Krishna is a deity of ancient Javanese mythology. Krishna represents intelligence, wisdom, strategy, and technology. It is told that he was able to see images of the future through a device called lopian, which can be interpreted as a data and information processor with a certain algorithm for a certain purpose. Krishna was chosen as the personification of I01 2022 and will be used as the event’s visual representation in publications and promotions. It aims to show how the informatics field works in Indonesia: utilization of local wisdom in the digital world.
